Subject: Request to serve as Class ‘52 Free Agent

Mr. George Baker ‘74
Chair, 2007-08 Annual Fund

Hamilton College

Dear Mr. Baker:

Thank you for requesting that I serve as a Free Agent for the class of ’52. However, you should be aware that on October 31st and November 1st I sent email messages to about 55 classmates with discoverable addresses and on November 2nd sent about 25 letters to the addresses available at Hamilton on-line requesting that they support not only the College but also The Alexander Hamilton Institute.

I am greatly impressed by the ambitious start of the Institute and the program they are planning. I am attaching the letter I sent. I hope you will also encourage others to support the Institute.

I will leave it to you and Mr. David Steadman ‘03 to decide if you wish me to serve as an agent. If so, I would be happy to phone any of the members of the class of ’52.

Sincerely,

Bill Nye, ’52

On behalf of the founders of the AHI, I would like to thank Mr. Nye publicly for his support.

We hope to have big news in the weeks ahead about the funding of several initiatives, including the innovative Gerrit Smith-George Fitzhugh colloquium. Mark the date April 10-12, 2008.

Can anyone out there in cyberworld tell me what the hell is going on at Hamilton? The stories in the Spectator do not fit with what alumni are being told.

"Because students were discouraged in not being placed on the meeting agenda, they decided to stage a silent demonstration at the faculty meeting."

"The main goals of the SJI are the establishment of a diversity intensive requirement and first year orientation program."

While reading the Spectator stories and editorial I could not help but think back to Gene Tobin's history class where a real concentration camp survivor, a genuine victim, told us of the horrors and torments she suffered: her parents and little brother murders, sterilization, starvation, merciless and unrelenting beatings and rape. With that context, it doesn't really seem right that the guy who got called a name is now a "victim" whose "human dignity" was threatened.

It is also strange how many paragraphs it now takes to say, "Some guys had a fight and this guy called that guy a name." So much for freedom of speech.

What ever happened to the Larchmont lawyer (alias Yikes). We miss her posted comedy routine.
