Ben Wu's Statement of Candidacy

Many thought my candidacy last year was solely a reaction to Ward Churchill. It was not: I am committed to supporting & improving Hamilton and its students, parents, faculty, and alumni. Last year I received the most votes of all petition candidates and came in 4th overall.

As my biography indicates, I have lived abroad for many years and have significant business experience that will benefit Hamilton. As a trustee you will find me to be objective, responsive, financially conservative, inclined to greater transparency in governance, and a supporter of free speech and intellectual diversity in all matters Hamilton.

My objectives are to:

  • Improve governance with proper policies & systems for control and accountability
  • Safeguard Hamilton’s reputation by promoting the highest standards for faculty, scholarship, pedagogy and leadership
  • Be inclusive by listening, engaging and responding to all constituencies
  • Be a true fiduciary trustee

On a personal note, my father was not a US citizen and was truly grateful to Hamilton for educating his son. In honoring his wishes and my own as a loyal alumnus, I truly wish to serve as your trustee.
